Agfa HealthCare, a leading provider of IT-enabled clinical workflow and diagnostic imaging solutions, has won two prestigious Canadian Health Informatics Awards at a recent gala event hosted by ITAC Health (formerly the Canadian Healthcare Information Technology Trade Association).
Now in its fourth year of celebrating excellence in the Canadian health informatics community, ITAC Health recognizes and honours the contributions of individuals and companies for accomplishments in the efficient use of information technology to improve the delivery of healthcare for all Canadians.
Agfa HealthCare won the Healthcare Transformation of the Year Award for its Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) digital imaging project with the Nova Scotia Department of Health in Canada. The project has fundamentally transformed the delivery of healthcare in Nova Scotia through the use of advanced imaging informatics technology. The second award was won in the Corporate Citizenship of the Year category, which recognized Agfa HealthCare's work with key industry partners to raise awareness of the benefits of healthcare ICT and the company's healthy investments in the advancement of healthcare IT in Canada.
Agfa HealthCare was nominated for the Healthcare Transformation of the Year Award by the Nova Scotia Department of Health, in recognition of the company's effort to help the region's physicians and their patients make faster and more informed treatment decisions through a province-wide PACS implementation using the Agfa IMPAX® systems. Today, Nova Scotia is the largest provincial jurisdiction with a fully digital imaging environment, processing over 1.2 million studies annually. Thousands of patients also benefit from improved care delivery, improved report turnaround and reduced patient wait times and better health outcomes through real-time access to x-rays and other critical patient images.
The Corporate Citizenship of the Year Award recognizes Agfa HealthCare's substantial investments in the Canadian health informatics industry, including its numerous association and conference sponsorships and Agfa Healthcare's commitment to raising awareness of healthcare technology by working collectively with industry and standards associations like Communitech, MEDEC, Information Technology Association of Canada and Canada Health Infoway. Its strong partnerships with leading academic institutions also contributed to the nomination, such as the creation of a new PhD and Master program in health informatics at Dalhousie University, and support for similar efforts at Laval University, McMaster University, University of Waterloo, University of Victoria and Conestoga College.
"This recognition underscores Agfa HealthCare's commitment to delivering cutting-edge imaging and healthcare technology, and the leading role our people play in making the vision of e-Health a reality," said Michael Green, President & CEO, Agfa HealthCare North America. "I'm proud of our achievements, and we're honoured to receive this recognition by ITAC Health in this highly competitive field. I'd like to congratulate everyone who was involved in these projects, and thank the Province of Nova Scotia and Teranet for their nominations."
