Jan-Eric Slot appointed CEO of the IHTSDO
Tuesday, 07 September 2010
The Management Board of the International Health Terminology Standards Development Organisation (IHTSDO) announced that Jan-Eric Slot has been appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organisation from November 2010.

Jan-Eric Slot is currently the CIO at the Academic Medical Centre at the University of Amsterdam where he is responsible for managing a portfolio of over one thousand applications and an innovation centre covering Patient Care and general research. Jan-Eric also lectures in IT Governance at the university and is an editor of HITE (Hospital Information Technology Europe) publication.

Before joining the university Jan-Eric held a variety of senior positions in health related IT companies in Europe and the US.

He attended medical school in Amsterdam and also holds Masters degrees in Information Systems and Business Administration and is fluent in several European languages.

"We are delighted to welcome Jan-Eric as new CEO of our organisation," said Martin Severs, Chairman of the Management Board and Executive Chairman of the IHTSDO. "The IHTSDO is now an established organisation and a person with Jan-Eric's experience and skills in senior management, academic medical research and IT industry trackrecord is perfect in the role for continuing to broaden but especially to deepen and strengthen the use of SNOMED CT."

Shelagh Maloney, board member Canada and Chair of the Selection Committee of the Management Board, said that the Selection Committee unanimously selected Jan-Eric Slot based on his impressive track record of working in a variety of highly relevant industries and his extensive experience of management at all levels.

"Our search for a new CEO has been focused and thorough, and the standard of the applications was exceptional" says Maloney. "A Selection Committee of board members representing all regions was created, consisting of myself, Lene Asholm from Denmark, Martin Severs (Chair) and Duncan McNeil the current Transitional CEO. With support from the recruitment firm Harvey Nash, we established a broad field of candidates and interviewed many highly qualified individuals."

"I very much look forward to joining the IHTSDO and to working with such a hugely dedicated group of professionals and I hope to use my experience to promote greater use of SNOMED CT and leverage the potential of information to contribute to better health and health care," says Slot, new CEO of the IHTSDO from November 2010.
