Nuance announces SpeechMagic 7 and SpeechMagic Solution Builder 2.0
Friday, 13 November 2009
Nuance Communications, Inc., a leading supplier of speech solutions, introduces version 7 of its speech recognition platform SpeechMagic and version 2.0 of SpeechMagic Solution Builder, a clinical documentation application for German-speaking countries, Finland and Spain. Nuance made the announcement during its first European healthcare partner meeting in Vienna (November 12-13, 2009).

SpeechMagic, a speech recognition Software Development Kit for integration with health IT systems is used by over 100 partners around the globe to provide digital dictation and speech recognition capabilities to hospitals, clinics, transcription companies and group practices. SpeechMagic 7 includes the latest generation of speech recognition technology, improved user-specific adaptation, a new SpeechMagic Client, an updated SpeechMagic Workstation, and support for Microsoft Windows 7. The new programming interface offers the possibility to integrate SpeechMagic with a wide variety of edit controls. Installation-free client deployment allows for seamless roll-out in any given set-up or IT infrastructure; this reduces maintenance efforts for administration. The SpeechMagic Citrix Extension has been expanded to include the support of Linux-based thin clients. SpeechMagic 7 further leverages an extensive measurement framework to evaluate productivity and turnaround times, so that hospitals can be given the possibility to assess the benefits of speech recognition and identify areas of improvement. Start-up accuracy, vocabularies as well as learning algorithms have been further enhanced, leading to the delivery of a powerful speech recognition infrastructure at even enterprise or group-wide level. SpeechMagic 7 supports more than 25 recognition languages.

SpeechMagic Solution Builder 2.0, which is the company's speech-based clinical documentation application for German-speaking countries, Finland and Spain. SpeechMagic Solution Builder 2.0 comes with improved online speech recognition features and now facilitates medical reporting, inline with the structure of the electronic patient record. Combined with the new auto-text feature which allows doctors to insert standard text paragraphs by voice command, structured medical reporting can deliver additional productivity gains of up to 20%. SpeechMagic Solutions Builder 2.0 has been designed to power documentation workflows in large-scale, distributed networks. The new version can manage up to 1,500 users and 100,000 dictation jobs simultaneously. SpeechMagic Solution Builder 2.0 supports Citrix networks and Linux workstations.

"Digital dictation and speech recognition have become mainstream functions within healthcare IT applications in healthcare organizations of all sizes across the world. The current EMR/EHR initiatives further drive speech as the dominant input modality for most applications in healthcare," said Marcel Wassink, Vice President of Nuance Healthcare in Europe. "Nuance plays a critical role in delivering the technology needed to support today's new, powerful applications that help hospitals to streamline their processes and boost productivity - and that leads to better healthcare and improved patient safety", Marcel Wassink added.
