Philips Recognized By KLAS for Easy-to-Use Advanced Visualization Tools
Friday, 06 March 2009
Royal Philips ElectronicsRoyal Philips Electronics (NYSE: PHG, AEX: PHI) announced that its Brilliance Workspace computed tomography (CT) workstation was recognized in the 2008 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards: Software & Professional Services report. KLAS, an independent research firm specializing in monitoring and reporting performance of healthcare information technology vendors, announced that the Philips Brilliance Workspace was the category leader in Advanced Visualization.

Brilliance Workspace addresses the primary challenge facing healthcare providers working with multislice CT: how to manage datasets generated by large volume acquisitions, while speeding the "time to diagnosis". The software automates multiple tasks through built-in intelligent workflow features that guide even a novice user through his or her task.

Physicians use information from CT scans to rule out or confirm the presence of certain abnormalities or diseases. That information can be vital in determining proper treatment options. Brilliance Workspace helps care providers see more and do more, allowing them to share results more easily and aim toward improving health outcomes for patients.

"Since 1998, the Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards report has been shining a light on the performance of vendors throughout the healthcare industry," said KLAS President Adam Gale. "Today the objective of the report remains the same: to help healthcare providers make informed decisions, whether they're looking to buy technology, review a current vendor, validate an operational decision or determine the right products to remain after a merger. With detailed analysis of literally hundreds of healthcare IT products and services, the 2008 Top 20 Best in KLAS Awards report is a guide designed to help providers learn from the experiences of their peers and make the right choices for their organizations."

Brilliance Workspace features the Workspace Portal, which allows users to access information anywhere, at any time. Whether working on their hospital’s picture archiving and communication system (PACS) at their office, at home or on the road, users are now capable of performing the same reformatting or post-processing activities that previously required them to be physically located at a workstation.

"To earn KLAS recognition validates our commitment to focus on the needs of patients and care providers," said Peter Reimer, vice president of CT Marketing for Philips Healthcare. "We are dedicated to meeting customer needs by making Brilliance Workspace one of the most thorough and easy-to-use visualization tools. We are pleased that 90 percent of users report the system meets their functional needs."

The Brilliance Workspace recently added new features and applications, two of which are, whole body bone removal and liver segmentation. These new features were unveiled at the Radiological Society of North America's (RSNA) 2008 Annual Meeting. Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) applications are also available on this productivity tool. To learn more about the Brilliance Workspace, visit www.BrillianceEverywhere.com.
