Vejthani Hospital Leverages World-Class Healthcare Information System

InterSystemsInterSystems, a global leader in software for connected care, today announced that Vejthani Hospital, a leading JCI accredited private hospital in Thailand, has expanded its investment in the InterSystems TrakCare™ healthcare information system.

Vejthani Hospital is a 263-bed private hospital providing a full range of inpatient and outpatient services including 24-hour emergency care. The hospital treats over 350,000 patients per year, including international patients from over 40 countries.

Vejthani Hospital's decision to expand its investment in this world-class healthcare information system demonstrates its commitment to adopting the latest IT capabilities to provide the very highest levels of patient care, continue to improve business operations, and provide doctors with the information they need to make the best decisions.

TrakCare is an Internet-based, unified healthcare information system that provides a full range of clinical, administrative, laboratory and community care capabilities. It is a multi-language system that comes pre-configured for Thai market requirements, so customers can be up and running quickly with a system that mirrors the way they work.

Viney Hora, Country Manager of InterSystems Thailand, said that Vejthani Hospital is one of many leading healthcare organisations in more than 25 countries that rely on TrakCare to provide healthcare professionals with the information needed to make informed decisions. TrakCare's market presence includes nationwide implementations in Scotland and Chile, state-wide implementations in Victoria, Australia and Brasilia, Brazil and organisation-wide implementations at Bangkok Dusit Medical Services in Thailand, Manipal Hospitals in India and Albert Einstein Hospital in Brazil.

"Information technology is revolutionising the healthcare industry," said Dr.Chakrit Soucksakit Chief Executive Officer of Vejthani Hospital. "At Vejthani, IT is recognised as an integral part of the hospital."

CEO of Vejthani Hospital said Vejthani believes that the role of IT in hospitals goes far beyond improving efficiency. "IT is a key enabler in providing patients with the highest quality of care and this is why we are expanding our strategic investment. Vejthani Hospital first implemented InterSystems' healthcare information system in 2000 and has progressively adopted new capabilities to support the clinical and operational goals of the organisation." he said.

"TrakCare's Internet-based architecture makes information easily accessible to healthcare professionals via smart phones and tablet devices." said Assistant Prof. Korpong Rookkapan, MD, Chief Operating Officer of Vejthani Hospital. "Deployment of its advanced functionality ensures consistency of care, decreases medical errors and allows us to measure and report on the quality of care."

Asst. Prof. Rookkapan, MD, said "The hospital is now deploying advanced functionality for clinical pathways, clinical data analytics and medication management."

Vejthani Hospital is integrating clinical pathways to enable quality assurance of its clinical practices, which supports the JCI accreditation. Clinical pathways is the intelligence within TrakCare that supports physicians by guiding them through workflow and standardising treatments for any given diagnosis or procedure. This ensures that best practices are followed, consistency in treatment is maintained and most importantly, that patients receive the utmost care.

To improve safety, Vejthani is deploying electronic medication management. Prescribing, dispensing and dosing are all done now through TrakCare, where all data relevant to medication management resides in a single repository and shared program logic allows doctors, pharmacists and nurses to work collaboratively. The hospital is currently working on integrating a Drug Information Management System to reduce adverse drug events and help to save lives. Later this year, an automatic drug dispensing machine for patients will be introduced.

Vejthani is also adopting TrakCare Analytics advanced technology that facilitates business process analysis and optimisation using real-time data. TrakCare's pre-configured dashboards enable Vejthani executives to view and analyse live data, including key performance indicators, to carry out more efficient operations and timely decision making. The analytics capabilities allow Vejthani to track and monitor patient outcomes, and in the future Vejthani plans to benchmark their treatment procedures and outcome indicators against other hospitals around the world.
