Initiate Systems, Inc., a leader in master data management (MDM) solutions, announced today that the company has won a 2008 Innovative Solution Award from SourceMedia and DM Review magazine for its work with customer SureScripts-RxHub, a network used by physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners and pharmacists nationwide to exchange health information and prescribe without paper.
This secure electronic transmission of prescription information between physicians and pharmacists provides access to life-saving information about patients during emergencies or routine care.
SureScripts-RxHub implemented Initiate Patient™ software to support effective data sharing and knowledge through complete, trusted views of patient data, including prescription information relating to patients.
DM Review's Innovative Solution Award was created to recognize solutions that are groundbreaking and provide quantifiable business value. Initiate's work with SureScripts-RxHub was recognized in the Data Management category.
SureScripts-RxHub has seen growing demand from physicians for a more comprehensive view of a patient's medication history. With a patient's consent, SureScripts-RxHub is able to securely provide this information during an office visit. This same capability has been used during emergencies to help patients, including those displaced by the San Diego wildfires in 2007 and, more recently, Hurricane Ike. Through ICERx.org - an online resource that provides licensed prescribers and pharmacists caring for disaster victims with secure access to a patient's medication history - SureScripts-RxHub was able to provide authorized users with secure access to vital medication information that ensured higher quality of care for disaster victims.
DM Review Senior Editor Valerie Valentine called Initiate's work with SureScripts-RxHub "a life-saving solution with high value of service, satisfaction and time savings."
Jim Ericson, DM Review editorial director said, "It reflects the creativity that IT and business leaders are bringing to bear in solutions directed at specific business problems."
In addition to working with award-winning organizations such as SureScripts-RxHub, Initiate supports more than 100 healthcare organizations in the highly accurate sharing of health records to help improve services at the point of care, increase operational efficiencies and enable interoperability among applications contributing to successful health information exchange.
"It is timely that we acknowledge the power of electronic prescribing and the success of SureScripts-RxHub and Initiate. The use of secure and confidential exchange of health information should play an integral role in supporting the Obama administration's stated objectives for national healthcare, which include the prevention of medical errors and the reduction of healthcare costs," said Lorraine Fernandes, vice president, healthcare industry ambassador at Initiate.
"By applying Initiate's solutions for interoperable health, SureScripts-RxHub enables healthcare providers to improve the safety, efficiency and quality of care," Fernandes added. "Initiate is proud to support this continuum of care by allowing for collaboration between physicians, pharmacies and other healthcare stakeholders."
