Allscripts and dbMotion to Provide HIE for Advancing Patient Centered Medical Home
Wednesday, 14 April 2010
dbMotionAllscripts (NASDAQ: MDRX), the leading provider of software, information and connectivity solutions for physicians, and dbMotion, a provider of health interoperability solutions, have been selected by Thomas Jefferson University (TJU) and Jefferson University Physicians (JUP) to provide an integrated and interoperable Electronic Health Record (EHR) and population management solution for JUP's physicians, who currently use the Allscripts EHR. The new solution will create a single, unified patient record for all TJU caregivers, broadening and strengthening their practice of the Patient Centered Medical Home.

Thomas Jefferson University, located in Philadelphia, Penn., is a leading academic medical center dedicated to excellence in health sciences education and research as well as the latest advancements in clinical care. Jefferson University Physicians (JUP), a supporting organization of TJU, is one of the largest multi-specialty physician practices throughout Philadelphia and the Delaware Valley with over 105 practice sites and 800,000 patient visits per year. JUP is comprised of more than 500 physicians in over 33 specialties and multiple primary care practices. JUP physicians also serve as full-time teaching faculty of Jefferson Medical College. JUP's adoption of advanced health information technologies that support information exchange is in keeping with its receipt of the National Committee for Quality Assurance's (NCQA) highest designation of Level 3 in January 2009.

"We are delighted to be working with Allscripts and dbMotion in order to further extend the capabilities of our Electronic Health Record," said Bruce Metz, Chief Information Officer of Thomas Jefferson University. "Access to a comprehensive patient record that reflects meaningfully harmonized data from all care points is the cornerstone to enabling the Patient Centered Medical Home. Our physicians are focused on providing optimal patient-centered care. The population management solution provided by Allscripts and dbMotion enables us to take proactive care to the next level by actively monitoring our patients' conditions and events across the medical continuum."

At the core of this project, Allscripts will integrate various community and acute care systems into its Electronic Health Record through its partner, dbMotion. The Allscripts-dbMotion solution for physician practices was key to JUP continuing to meet the NCQA's Level 3 requirements.

"Allscripts and dbMotion are breaking down the 'walls' between acute and ambulatory IT systems, creating a unified patient record that bridges the gaps between hospital-based and office-based care and enables physicians to access a comprehensive view of all available data," said Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts.

dbMotion fulfills the vision of connected healthcare. dbMotion's health interoperability solution enables healthcare organizations and health information exchanges (HIEs) to meaningfully integrate and leverage their information assets by placing an integrated patient record within clinicians' workflows. dbMotion closes information gaps between caregivers, enhances decision making and drives improvements in the quality and efficiency of patient care.

"Empowering physicians with information and tools to make the right decision, at the right time is at the core of our vision for connected healthcare," said Peter McClennen dbMotion's President for North America. "We are excited to be part this project that uses interoperability and health information exchange to further the benefits derived from the Patient Centered Medical Home."
