European Commission's Projects Demonstrations at eHealth 2010
Thursday, 11 March 2010
Selected successfull European Commission (EC) funded ICT for Health projects will be on the EC stand (801) to show their research achievements as well as discuss them and the potential use of these results.

Regular high-level conferences, with accompanying exhibitions of the latest eHealth technologies and applications, provide a platform to enhance the development of eHealth services in Europe. Policy-makers, healthcare managers, researchers and suppliers, together with healthcare professionals, meet to share experiences and discover the latest developments in this fast-moving field.

From 15 to 18 March 2010 the Ministry of Health of Spain and the Regional Government of Catalonia in cooperation with the European Commission are organizing a ministerial Conference in Barcelona. It will co-locate with the World of Health IT conference.

High-level eHealth conferences organised by the presiding countries since 2003 represent important annual milestones in this specific field. Spain therefore will carry on the tradition and host this Conference in Barcelona as a part of its presidency in the first half of 2010.

The eighth in a series of annual conferences aims to support dissemination of eHealth best practices. It will include presentations of the latest technologies in on-line health, tools, applications and the best practices. A platform will be provided to encourage the development of on-line health services in Europe. The politicians, health administrators, researchers and suppliers, along with health professionals, are meeting to share their experiences and to discover what is new in this fast-evolving area.

With the motto: "eHealth for sustainable healthcare: global changes through local actions", this eighth edition of the eHealth ministerial conference acknowledges the urgent perspective of a rapidly ageing European society, the lack of prevention and prediction of illnesses, the growing demand for quality attention, the lack of electronic health and the interoperability of the systems (nationally and internationally).

Increased life expectancy and the consequent increase in the prevalence of chronic illnesses pose serious challenges to the sustainability of the national health systems. The conference will present how and why on-line health may be the solution to facing this world challenge.
