Agfa HealthCare to acquire WPD

Agfa HealthCareAgfa HealthCare, a leading provider of diagnostic imaging and healthcare IT solutions, announces today that it has reached an agreement to acquire all the shares of WPD, one of the leading healthcare IT companies in Brazil. The transaction price will not be disclosed.

Growing faster than any European market, with almost 200 million people, Brazil offers significant growth opportunities in the healthcare IT business", says Christian Reinaudo, Agfa-Gevaert's CEO, "Through this acquisition, Agfa HealthCare enters the Brazilian market for Hospital Information Systems. It allows us to build further on our already strong market position in Brazil for both Imaging and IT systems for radiology."

Walter Amorim, President and Chief Executive Officer of WPD, added: "The deep local market know-how of WPD, acquired over more than 20 years of serving a wide customer base, will perfectly combine with Agfa's European experience in Hospital and Clinical Information Systems. The combination of Orbis Medical, already successfully deployed in about 900 institutions across continental Europe, together with WDP's IT solutions will create a brand-new, state-of-the art clinical information management system (CIS) providing Brazilian clinicians an all-encompassing view of medical information."
